I’ve been watching heritage house dealers for a few months now, just browsing. Thinking about actually putting some bids in on this current cycle. Saw a decent looking 2018 Doosan 300 on there. Seems like the prices are usually lower than IronPlanet or Ritchie Bros, but I know the whole "blind" auction thing is a gamble.
Has anyone actually bought anything off there recently? Is it worth the hassle? Just trying to gauge if the "deals" are real or if I'm going to end up with a rust bucket.

Yeah I bid on heritagehousedealers.com a while back, ended up winning a Kubota mini excavator. Blind bidding definitely takes some getting used to since you can't see what others are bidding, but it worked out for me. Just went in with a max number I was comfortable with and stuck to it instead of trying to guess what everyone else was doing.

Whole thing was pretty straightforward tbh — no major issues with payment or pickup on my end. Wouldn't say it's for everyone if you're used to normal live auctions, but if you go in knowing your number it's not bad.

I won a skid steer and a mini ex off them about a year ago. You can definitely find deals if you know exactly what you’re looking for. The prices are lower because you can't inspect them (usually). You gotta look at the hour meter photos really closely and check the serial numbers for service records. It's definitely not for the faint of heart though. Did you check the engine hours on that Doosan?

Sold a backhoe through them last fall. Process was super easy on the seller side. They sent a truck, picked it up, and I got a check about a week later. As a buyer, I imagine it's a bit more nerve-wracking, but from a seller's perspective, it’s a solid platform for offloading equipment quickly.

Why would you guys pay for something that you cannot inspect by yourself ???

Honestly, I was super skeptical too. I just saw a Facebook ad and figured I’d throw a low bid on a dozer just to see what happened. Ended up winning it at a higher price than I wanted, but I took the gamble. It showed up last week and it runs perfectly. Sometimes you just get lucky, but I definitely don't recommend it for everyone

You actually can inspect it if you know what to look for. I zoom in on the cylinder rods for pitting, check the hour meters against the wear on the joystick, and look for leaks in the high-res belly pan shots. You’d be surprised what you can see if you look closely enough.

I see a boom lift I want, but it's three states away. For those of you who have bought recently, did you use their shipping partners or did you find your own hauler? Trying to figure out if the shipping quote they give me is fair

That Doosan 300 is a solid machine, but just make sure you zoom in on the undercarriage photos. That’s usually where they hide the real cost on those excavators. As for the site, I’ve bought two smaller items and they were exactly as described. It’s definitely a gamble, but if the price is right, you can afford to fix a few things.

I’ve been browsing their listings for months too but I’ve never actually pulled the trigger. The prices look almost too good sometimes, which is exactly what makes me nervous. I’ll be watching this thread to see if anyone has actually received a machine in decent condition.

Keep in mind that those low prices you see are likely just the starting bids. Since it’s a blind auction, you have no idea what the ceiling is. You’d have to get incredibly lucky to actually win a machine with a low offer

Never heard of them

I haven't used them, and I probably won't just because I’m old school. I need to be able to hear the engine run and see if there's smoke before I hand over that kind of cash. The blind auction concept is interesting, but it’s just too rich for my blood

I can't speak to the website itself, but I run a Doosan 300 at my day job. They’re solid machines if they’ve been maintained. If you do decide to bid, definitely update us. I’ve thought about trying them out for a smaller backhoe
